DSC-ALE Debrecen on the top again

Debrecen Triumphs Again: DSC-ALE Defends Title in 12-Touch Table Football European Cup

On 18th of August 2024, Maroslele hosted the final of the ITFC 12-Touch Table Football European Cup Club Final. This event served as a rematch of sorts, as the same two teams competed in the 2023 European Cup final. The DSC-ALE team from Debrecen represented Hungary, while the StrickBreakers from Miercurea Ciuc were the champions of Romania. Last year, the Hungarian champions emerged victorious in their encounter.

The Debrecen side fielded the trio of Kovács, Matkó P., and Puskás (with Major, Matkó L., and Zubora available as substitutes but not called to the table), while the Transylvanian team played with Bajkó, Krejcik, and Marschal (with Bors as a substitute and Bodó not participating). After the table assignments were drawn, the teams played two rounds, where a victory was worth one point, and both a draw and a loss earned zero points in the aggregate.

In the “first half,” or the first round, the Debrecen team achieved victories on all three tables, securing a 3-0 lead. This meant that in the final round, the defending champions only needed to avoid defeat on one table to retain their title! The StickBreakers made a substitution, with Bors replacing Bajkó, and for a while, Bors held his ground well, even taking the lead. The other two matches were equally tense and closely contested. Ultimately, the Transylvanian team couldn’t secure a victory on any of the tables, although they proved once again that they are a formidable opponent not to be underestimated.

With a final score of 4-0, the Hungarian champions successfully defended their European Cup title! During the award ceremony, the ITFC president expressed his hope that by 2025, they will be able to host the European Cup final in a Final Four format.
